Music, birds and laughter

I'm pleased to announce I'll be performing the keynote address alongside Dan Varland for the BirdFest & Bluegrass event in Ridgefield WA October 7th!

Birds, Music and Laughter
With Tony Starlight and Dan Varland
Saturday October 7th 5 pm
Old Liberty Theater, Ridgefield WA

Our joint presentation begins with Dan’s powerpoint presentation titled “The Turkey Vulture: Love at Second Sight!”, which will give listeners a chance to take a closer look at the species and appreciate that they are quite beautiful in their own way. Graceful in flight, their feeding habits provide vital ecosystem services by decreasing the spread of disease and recycling nutrients through the environment.

Then Tony joins Dan to discuss how they met. Tony reported a Turkey Vulture tagged “AP” to the Bird Banding Lab. Dan had tagged the bird 100 miles away and some two years earlier. They are now working together on an educational campaign to encourage people to report banded and tagged birds and they will share their song parody “Band on the Bird”.

After a brief intermission Tony will share the photographs and comic commentary from his 2018 calendar “Conversations With Birds”. He will also share comedic stories on how he got interested in birding, which are chronicled in his forthcoming book about his first year of birding.

The show closes with a few comic bird sing-alongs, like “I Wish They All Could Be California Gulls” and more.
